You know you sang that title 🙂

These pictures should explain it all…

Charlie is all fixed up and back in shape!! After a long long month, we are finally together again. Sadly, I have to go out of town this weekend and didn’t want to take the risk without getting out and about around town first. So while I leave my dear Charlie at home, I head to Indiana this weekend in a rental for my nephew’s birthday party.

But for the short time that I drove my Mini Cooper back home, I had a blast! Windows down, music blaring, and loving my car all over again!

Glad to have my Charlie back!

….yes I’m a nerd about my car.

The need for a kick in the pants: reaction to government shut down

Ok so there is obviously a lot of opinions about the government shut down. I had a few thoughts on the matter to share.

1. I believe too many people rely on the government for income, and I refer to those who hardly work for it in return. Now that it’s been cut off, a lot of people will get a “kick in the pants” because they are forced to work support themselves and their families

2. On the other side of that, a lot of good honest working people are not able to work, their paycheck is cut off, and there is no guarantee that they will be compensated for however long it takes for the idiots in Washington to get their act together.

3. I think we need to give Congress and Obama and good “kick in the pants” for this idiocy. ESPECIALLY when they are still paying themselves their normal paychecks while penalizing the real workers in the government that actually keep the doors open. I am appalled by our government.

Those are my thoughts. Let your comments be made and heard!

And keep watchin’

Fall is here!!

Wow September was a whirlwind of a month. I can’t believe it is October already! But oh how exciting my life has been recently! I’m so excited for Fall and the holiday season!

I am making it a goal to post every day this month, and continue on from there. I’ve had a lot of great ideas for blog posts but never get around to writing them. No more!

So let me catch you up on a few things. Charlie is feeling MUCH better! He’s been away for a whole month, but fortunately getting fixed now and I should have him back tomorrow! I was really hoping to get some real quality road time when I take my trip to Indiana this weekend, but its best to slowly work him back up to “road warrior” stage. So I’ll be taking a rental while my boyfriend looks after him. Oh well. there will be much rejoicing and quality time when I return.

WHIT/PEN is starting to get more and more traffic, and not by much that I’m really doing. I’ve had a sale just about every week in September, and my first big order! And not just any big order, but to non-other than an employee at the Mini Cooper Dealership in Nashville!! I’ve been working really hard to get this order squared away and, if I leave a good impression, will be expecting many more orders from her in the future! It’s got me making all kinds of plans on how I can get my products into other dealerships around the country! This business is gunna grow, and if you stick around, you’ll get to be a part of it!

And it’s not just my Etsy shop that has gotten business, but I’ve also had a number of freelance projects recently. A logo design, save the date designs, and wedding invitations. All for people I know but definitely giving me some serious experience (along with a hefty payment for that logo) that I can use in a portfolio for future prospective clients.

So like I said, it’s been a busy month, and the rest of the year will be just like it! Be on the lookout for holiday products coming soon to WHIT/PEN!

And in the meantime, enjoy a few snapshots from this month that I’ve been wanting to share:

When teenagers snag your phone…

It’s a good thing I lock my phone, because who knows what mischievous things these kids could do. But there is the ability to take photos from the lock screen, so here’s what happens:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

There were about 47 total….

But you know, I still love those kids. And honestly I love having goofy pictures because it makes me smile when I run across them on my phone later. And smiles are always good to have!

So thanks teenage buddies for being goofy, even when it takes up memory space on my phone!

Lessons from the Pavement #4: Here’s to Starting Again

ef64a62a0f63e085c36dbb5402da48c6I discovered about a month ago that the shin splints that plagued me in my high school years, still are very much present. I get them easily, and I don’t think they were ever treated properly. And while my daily walking never caused them to flair much if at all, when I started to progress to jogging…..they came back with a vengeance.

Not only that, but running on the side of somewhat narrow roads, means you are constantly dealing with the angle of the road. Roads are angled either to one side or down from the middle for water drainage in most places. That means, I’m running on that angle every day, which is not good for your legs.

So I became disheartened because I knew if I continued taking that same path for exercise, it would be detrimental to the health of my legs. Because it’s not just about losing weight, its about being fit, being active, and able to have some level of endurance for many years to come. But because I hit this “bump in the road,” I gave up.

I stopped walking altogether for a while. And what I didn’t realize was I became frustrated with myself. I knew I needed to keep walking, I knew I needed to find a new place to go, yet I did nothing but sit and ignore what I needed to do, heck I even ignored what I wanted to do, and it ate away at me.

It’s just a testimony that I still have a lot to learn about perseverance and mental attitude. Instead of trying to come up with a solution, I just sat there and stewed. I was sad knowing that I could not do my usual route anymore if I wanted to preserve my legs. I worried about how I was going to train for the 5K I entered that’s coming up soon. And I let those things prevent me from taking any action to keep training! How silly! And as the days passed, continuing to avoid walking, I got even more frustrated with myself for not exercising daily, to the point where I began to think it was too late to start again.

But let me tell you something…

It’s NEVER too late to start again!!

I know this. I’ve always know this. But I got myself lost in doubt, and in the problem rather than finding a solution. Well I finally woke up today. I was tired of being angry with myself and of seeing my former hard work fade away. And I said to myself, it’s time to start walking again. I knew of a loop about 5 miles away that could be a better training spot, and I had always wanted to check it out. So I finally just took the step, and went over there right after dinner and walked.

It was so great! Right on the river, the weather cool and breezy, and a little flatter and safer than the side of the road!

So I’m happy to say I’m back to walking again, and am going to keep at it so I’m not the slowest person out there for that 5K. Ha!

If you are stumbling around, angry with yourself and frustrated with circumstances, try to take some time to sit and think things through. Find solutions to your stumbles, don’t dwell on them, wishing how things were different. The  past is the past and there’s nothing you can do to change it 🙂

Craft Weekend

Every once in a while I need to do something with my hands. I love to make things. Most of the time that manifests in computer graphics and drawings. But a lot of times it also involves constructing something, whether it be with wood, fabric, or some other random craft. The end result is usually a gift or a new decoration for my home. For example, the paint stick lamp shade that I made 2 years ago that still hangs over my dining room table. That was a fantastically simple and useful project.

So this weekend, I set to the task of making a gift for my nephew’s upcoming birthday. I found a fun idea on Pinterest (where else) and decided it would be a perfect, cost effective gift for a two year old. Here’s the Pinterest inspiration:

And here’s my attempt:

It turned out rather perfectly if I do say so myself. Hope he likes it.

But then I didn’t stop there. I had another pin that I was for some reason just absolutely eager to try. Here’s the pin:

And here’s my little love monster:

IMG_3992Isn’t he cute 🙂 I was huge on stuffed animals as a kid so I think that’s why I was so eager to make one of these little guys. It’s definitely not the best sewing job, but it was an experiment with leftover fabric from other projects. He’ll make a good gift someday.

Once I finished sewing this little guy up, I was ready to call it done. I’m not eager to do another sewing project anytime soon, at least for another couple of weeks. What I love about graphic design is there’s no clean up. You shut the computer, move it, and done. With sewing….there’s all the trash from bits of thread and fabric, there’s putting away the extra fabric, there’s putting away the sewing machine, on and on. It doesn’t take terribly long but I’m lazy sometimes. So when I’m facing another sewing project, it might take me weeks to actually do it, because I don’t want to haul all the stuff out, knowing i’ll have to clean it up after.

But, these two projects were a lot of fun and good for a clarity of mind. It keeps me from burning out on graphic projects, and I can do a lot of it while watching movies or training videos for online marketing, the business Rob and I are working on. It’s a win win!

So that’s all for the craft projects for now. If you spend a lot of time on the computer, especially doing creative work, you ought to try getting away from it and doing something with your hands. It engages your creativity in a different way and can spark new ideas for your main work. It already is for mine!

Have a wonderful day and keep watchin’!

I made money while I slept…

Have your ever made money while sleeping? Neither have I. Until Friday night.

I have done absolutely no marketing. The most I have done is create a Facebook page for my Etsy shop. Outside of that, nothing. So when I get 3 sales in one week, its phenomenal! Not only that, but the first person bought 3 products, the second person requested an item that had “sold out,” and the third person bought in the middle of the night for me to find when I woke up the next morning! So basically it’s been the best sales week for me so far.

It got me excited, it got me fired up to work on my business more. And when I ran across a stock load of envelopes on clearance at Staples…..I bought up all that I could!

Ooh! And just as I was writing this, another design has popped into my head! So now I’m off to start designing it!

Keep watchin’! More products on the way!
